A Home Energy Physical examines your whole house and diagnoses the areas where making changes would improve your energy efficiency, comfort and overall home performance. Many of the causes of these issues are hidden, not easily seen or found without the right set of tools, tests and experience. Your HomeEnergyMD will use highly technical tools to assess your home including:

A Blower Door to determine ventilation, air movement and air leaks.
Gas and Carbon Monoxide monitors to ensure there are no gas leaks.
An infrared camera to see insulation levels and water damage in walls.

The Home Energy Physical will take 2-3 hours. There is typically little disturbance to you home. You will need to be home during the examination in case any questions or concerns arise.

To begin, your MD will ask you some basic questions about your home and review your latest energy bills. He will then complete a full assessment of your home from top to bottom using state-of-the-art diagnostic tools.

Once the Physical is complete, your MD will analyze the data that is collected. A summary will be shared that shows the key areas of focus for home performance optimization. Recommended treatment options and costs will be presented to improve the energy efficiency and comfort of your home. Your MD will also estimate energy savings and guarantees at that time. Plus, you will receive a more detailed report by mail.

The HomeEnergyMD Treatment Process

Best practices for an energy-efficient and comfortable home have come a long way over the last twenty years. The key is taking a whole-house approach to the energy efficiency plan. Say for example your home is heated with a furnace and forced hot air. It used to be that to improve your home, the best recommendation was to replace the furnace with a top-of-the-line energy-efficient model. But even the most energy-efficient model will burn a lot of fuel if the ducts, walls, attic, windows and doors are not insulated and leak air.

Your HomeEnergyMD will recommend treatment options specifically for your home based on the ENERGY STAR® guidelines for Home Performance. This helps you to correct your biggest and typically, most cost effective problems first. Once you choose a treatment option for your home, our Energy Management Technicians will get to work. We will schedule them to come to your home when it is convenient for you and are often done within a few weeks of the Home Energy Physical. Typical home treatment plans can be completed in 1-2 days.
